Charity Scrap Metal Collection for Little Maja – How Did It All Begin?
Do you remember last year’s charity scrap metal collection, the campaign titled “Become Santa Claus with Metkom”? Thanks to the incredible generosity of the residents of Gmina Dębica, their big hearts, and the involvement of compassionate people, over 33,000 PLN was raised for Little Maja from Nagawczyna.
This year, we are organizing another charity scrap metal collection for this brave little girl, and we’re determined to beat last year’s record.
Maja’s Story: Living with the “Ondine’s Curse”
Maja is a sweet little girl living in Nagawczyna, Gmina Dębica. With a loving family by her side, she’s a happy, smiling child. Unfortunately, Maja suffers from a rare genetic disorder known as Ondine’s Curse. Her mother must always be by her side because when Maja falls asleep, plays, or listens to stories, she stops breathing. This incurable disease affects only 20 people in Poland.
Maja’s parents do everything possible to ensure she can live a normal life, grow, and play with other children. But beyond their love and constant care, Maja needs costly treatment, rehabilitation, and a diaphragm pacemaker that will allow her to breathe independently in the future. The device alone costs about 500,000 PLN.
Firefighters and Metkom: A Charity Scrap Metal Collection in Gmina Dębica
This year’s charity scrap metal collection for Maja involves 14 Volunteer Firefighter Units (OSP) across Gmina Dębica. Scrap collection points have been established at 13 locations designated by each participating OSP. Additionally, anyone unable to deliver scrap to a collection point can call the responsible person to arrange transportation.
The initiative also involves Nocna Jazda Bez Celu Dębica, a local car enthusiast group.
The campaign, titled “Firefighters and Metkom for the Firefighter’s Daughter,” is supported by Gmina Dębica and the Association of Social Initiatives “New Opportunities.”
