Wings for Filip – How Did It Begin?
Wings for Filip is the name of a charity campaign aimed at raising funds for the rehabilitation and treatment of little Filip Biela. As an infant, Filip suffered a tragic accident, leading to severe injuries, including brain and skull damage, a broken leg, and bruising of the heart and kidneys. The injuries were so serious that Filip was not expected to survive. However, thanks to the persistence of his parents, Sylwia and Paweł, Filip is now three years old. Despite their unwavering efforts to support his development, the associated costs are immense.
When Piotr Grędysa, CEO of Metkom, learned about Filip’s story, he decided to help. He mobilized his employees to organize a charity campaign involving a scrap metal collection. This sparked the idea for “Wings for Filip,” a giant angel-wing sculpture made of scrap metal in Rzeszów. The planning and documentation for the project took over a year, and finding a blacksmith willing to take on the challenge of creating a four-meter-tall scrap metal sculpture proved equally difficult. Fortunately, the team at Metkom successfully brought the vision to life, and today we can admire the incredible results.
The organizer of the Wings for Filip campaign is Metkom, with co-organization support from the Under the Angel’s Wing Association. The campaign was held under the Honorary Patronage of the Mayor of Rzeszów, Konrad Fijołek. The sculpture and its structure were crafted by Janusz Świst, an artistic blacksmith from Futoma in the Podkarpacie region.
How Much Did Metkom Raise for Filip? And Why Is Helping So Important?
The Wings for Filip campaign encouraged businesses to donate scrap metal to Metkom. The collected scrap was then sold, and the proceeds were entirely donated to support Filip. In total, 120,000 PLN was raised for his treatment and rehabilitation.
Many doubted the project’s feasibility and its ability to generate funds. Despite these doubts, Metkom inspired its employees to get involved in Filip’s cause. The true value of their efforts and teamwork in realizing the Wings for Filip project cannot be measured in money.
Considering the noble goal, teamwork, contributions from other businesses and employees, and the hope of Filip’s parents, this initiative was an invaluable success. The angel wings made of scrap metal brought immeasurable value to our company and community. Together, we supported a young warrior who gave this project its purpose.
“Thank you to everyone who supported and trusted us,” says Piotr Grędysa, CEO of Metkom.

Scrap Metal – A Valuable Resource
As the Wings for Filip initiative demonstrates, scrap metal can do more than just undergo recycling for industrial use. Unused materials were transformed into an extraordinary work of art that no one can overlook. The angel wings made of scrap metal have become a symbol of collective assistance and commitment. Initiatives like this reshape perceptions of the industrial waste sector.
We hope to inspire other companies to undertake similar campaigns. Together, we can achieve so much more.
