Eco Obstacle Course for Children at the Toughest Firefighter Challenge

An eco-friendly obstacle course for children was created for the Toughest Firefighter Challenge held in Rzeszów on July 9, 2022. The event was part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Rzeszów Fire Department, for which Metkom was one of the sponsors. This national-level competition included a family picnic with many attractions, one of which was Metkom’s eco obstacle course for kids.

An Obstacle Course Made of Industrial Waste

What exactly was the eco obstacle course? We focused on educating through play. The course was built using industrial waste, including shredded documents, mats and EPDM granulate elements, and other discarded items. We also incorporated wooden plywood and old ribbons.

Young firefighters had to:

  • Extinguish fires in a house’s windows,
  • Cross a pool filled with shredded materials,
  • Navigate a flaming path,
  • Leap over a rubber chasm,
  • Pass through a fiery hoop.

The turnout was incredible, and every brave participant received a reward.

Why Did We Choose This Exhibit?

We wanted to connect Metkom’s activities with the work of firefighters and demonstrate how creatively waste can be repurposed for fun activities with children. This innovative solution was something we hadn’t seen before, so we were unsure how it would be received.

The interest in our booth exceeded expectations. Children eagerly participated in the challenge, some even multiple times, and parents found it hard to pull them away. Despite using waste materials, the idea was well-received. The result was a success: combining physical play with a simple form of recycling turned out to be a hit.

Scrap Trophies for the Toughest Firefighter Challenge Winners

The event concluded with an awards ceremony for the Toughest Firefighter Challenge winners. Metkom funded scrap trophies for the first-place winners in the Open Women’s category (Justyna Dytko – KM PSP Przemyśl) and the Open Men’s category (Adam Spychała – KP PSP Ostrów Wielkopolski). Congratulations to all the winners! We are impressed by the skills, agility, and strength demonstrated. The trophies were crafted by Janusz Świst from Futoma.

Metkom’s Commitment to Eco-Education

One of Metkom’s missions is to educate local communities about ecology. This not only promotes the principles of recycling and environmental care but also changes perceptions about companies involved in industrial waste management.

The company actively participates in various initiatives and organizes its own eco-events, including contests, waste-based workshops, flower bomb creation, and charitable scrap metal collections.
