Waste Laboratory at the Science Picnic in Rzeszów

What is the Waste Laboratory? What is the Science Picnic?

The Science Picnic is an annual event held in Rzeszów, promoting the concept of a Science Center in the Podkarpacie region. By fostering an interactive approach to learning and informal education, it helps “little and big explorers” better understand the worlds of physics, chemistry, robotics, and recycling. Simply put, it’s a fun-filled day of learning, experiments, and discoveries. If you want to inspire your child to explore nature, technology, or the digital world, walking through the exhibitors’ booths at the Science Picnic is the perfect place to start. It’s an event that every knowledge seeker should mark in their calendar.

This year, we were delighted to create our booth: the Waste Laboratory. Thanks to our hard work, we established a space filled with knowledge about scrap, metals, industrial waste, and recycling.

Scrap, Metals, Industrial Waste, and Recycling Booth – What Did We Prepare?

The Waste Laboratory was a real challenge for us, as engaging young “scientists” isn’t always easy. Fortunately, we had the support of Tomasz, the founder of Mądry Dzieciak, and the EKOSKOP Association. Together, we created the perfect space for sharing fascinating knowledge about industrial waste.

Participants had the chance to:

  • Use a “robot arm” equipped with an electromagnet to sort waste into metal and plastic.
  • Create their own instruments using leftover paper rolls, latex gloves, and plastic straws.
  • Explore intriguing experiments such as magical cans, “wasteophones,” polarized screens, and heated hangers.

Additionally, there was a special presentation showcasing the unique properties of metals using “magic tricks” from the world of physics.

What Did We Learn from the Science Picnic?

One thing is clear: The world is changing, and we increasingly care about giving waste a “second life.” The interest in recycling processes, a sense of responsibility, and a desire to teach these values to the youngest generations bring us great joy.

We hope that initiatives like these events and workshops will change perceptions of waste management companies in Poland. Furthermore, we aspire for the idea of recycling in our homes and businesses to become more than just a passing trend—it should be an investment in future generations.
